Since our founding in Dar es Salaam, Legend Customs & Manufacturing has delivered projects across Tanzania spanning structural steel construction, precision fabrication, industrial tooling, and locally manufactured agricultural equipment. We are not a trading house — we are a factory, a design studio, and a site installation crew, all under one management and one quality standard.

Below is a snapshot of the work we do. Every project on this list was designed, fabricated, and delivered end-to-end by the Legend team — from the first meeting to the final bolt torqued on-site.

Welding Bays

Four purpose-built welding bays — each equipped with industrial welding equipment, extraction ventilation, and all the fixturing and tooling needed to produce high-quality welds consistently, at pace.

Our welding bays are set up for production efficiency, not just one-off jobs. Each bay has a dedicated power source, wire feed or rod supply, extraction system, and a full complement of clamps, angle plates, and setup tooling. This means our welders can set up quickly, weld accurately, and move from one job to the next without the downtime that slows smaller shops down.

We operate MIG, TIG, arc, and cold welding processes across our bays. For structural steel production — the highest-volume work in our workshop — our MIG bays run near-continuously on shifts, producing consistent, clean welds on beams, columns, bracketry, and sub-assemblies. For finer work — stainless pipework, aluminium fabrication, and thin-section components — our TIG bays deliver the precision and weld quality the job demands.

All welders are certified and trained to relevant welding procedure specifications (WPS). In-process checks are performed by our QC team, and post-weld visual and dimensional inspection is completed before any welded component is signed off for further processing or dispatch.

Steel Cutting & Machining

Accurate steel cutting and machining are the foundation of precision fabrication. Our cutting department processes raw material to exact dimensions, producing clean, accurate components that assemble correctly, every time.

We operate CNC plasma cutting for structural sections and heavy plate work, and laser cutting for thinner sheet and flat plate where edge quality and cutting accuracy are paramount. Both systems are driven from CAD files — either customer-supplied DXF/DWG files or drawings produced by our own engineering team — ensuring dimensional accuracy from the first part cut.

Beyond cutting, our machining capability covers turning, milling, and drilling operations on steel and aluminium components where machined surfaces, threaded bores, or precision fits are required. We have the equipment to complete components fully in-house that would otherwise require external subcontracting, saving time and ensuring dimensional accuracy is maintained throughout.

CAD Design Studio

In-house design is one of the most important capabilities we offer. It means you can bring us a concept and walk away with a finished product — without managing a separate designer, draughtsman, and fabricator.

Our CAD design studio operates 2D drafting and 3D modelling software, covering the full range of design tasks needed to support our manufacturing operations and client project delivery. From a concept sketch on paper to a full set of production drawings, structural calculations, and assembly instructions — our design team handles the complete design cycle in-house.

For structural steel projects, we produce general arrangement drawings, structural member sizing calculations, connection details, and anchor bolt layouts suitable for submission to local authorities where required. For product design projects, we produce part drawings, assembly drawings, bill-of-materials, and — where required — full 3D models for visualisation and client approval before fabrication begins.

Having design and manufacturing in the same building means errors are caught early, design changes can be made quickly without lengthy back-and-forth, and the people making the product have direct input into how it is designed for ease of manufacture. This matters — and it shows in the quality of what we deliver.

Assembly & Finishing

A fabricated steel component is only as good as its finish. Our assembly and surface treatment operations ensure every product that leaves our factory looks right, performs right, and lasts as long as it should.

Our assembly area handles the final fitting and bolting together of complex multi-component fabrications before finishing. For large structural assemblies that cannot be transported as a single piece, we do a trial assembly in the workshop, checking fits, alignment, and geometry before marking, disassembling, and finishing the components for site installation. This eliminates fit-up problems on-site that cost time and money.

Surface treatment is critical for steel components in the Tanzanian environment. Coastal humidity and inland temperature variation demand proper protection if structures and tools are to achieve their intended service life. Our surface treatment options range from solvent-clean and primer application through to full multi-coat paint systems, epoxy coatings, and referral to galvanising for maximum corrosion protection on structural elements.

Brake Pressing & Forming

Steel forming — bending flat plate and section into channels, angles, boxes, and complex profiles — is a core skill in our workshop, supported by CNC press brake and section rolling equipment.

Our CNC press brake is the workhorse of our forming department. Operated from programmed bend sequences derived from our CAD drawings, it produces accurate, repeatable bends in steel plate from 1.5mm sheet through to 20mm structural plate, across bed widths up to 4 metres. Angle brackets, flanged plates, C-section purlins, box sections, door frames, equipment housings, and structural connection plates are all everyday press brake work for our team.

Section rolling allows us to produce curved structural elements — arched beams, rings, curved channel, and rolled hollow sections — that would be impossible to achieve by pressing alone. This opens up architectural and structural design options that straight-section fabrication cannot deliver.

Quality Control

Quality is not a final check at the end of production — it is a discipline applied at every stage of the process. Our QC system is structured to catch problems early, before they become expensive to fix.

Our quality control programme covers the entire production sequence: incoming raw material inspection, in-process checks at key production stages, post-weld inspection, dimensional verification, surface treatment inspection, and final release inspection before dispatch. Every project has a quality record that travels with the job through the workshop, capturing the results of each inspection point and providing full traceability from raw material to finished product.

For structural steel projects, our QC documentation provides the evidence base that contractors, site engineers, and project clients need to confirm that the steelwork they are receiving meets the specification they ordered. For OEM clients, our batch quality records provide the traceability documentation their own quality systems and customers require.

We continuously improve our processes based on non-conformance data, customer feedback, and the results of our internal audits. Our goal is simple: zero defects reaching the customer.

Logistics & Installation

Fabricating steel is only half the job. Getting it to site safely, unloading it efficiently, and erecting it correctly is where many projects go wrong — but not ours. Our own transport and installation capability means we control the whole process.

Structural steel erection is a skilled, safety-critical operation. Columns, beams, and roof trusses need to be lifted, positioned, plumbed, levelled, and permanently bolted or welded in the correct sequence, by a team that knows what it is doing. Our site installation crew has erected steel structures across Dar es Salaam and upcountry Tanzania, and they bring the skills, the equipment, and the safe working discipline the job demands.

We manage our own transport for components and prefabricated assemblies, coordinating loads to match site readiness and erection sequences. For larger structural projects requiring crane support, we coordinate crane hire and lift planning to ensure the erection programme runs efficiently and safely.

On completion of erection, we carry out a final structural inspection, tighten all bolted connections to specified torque values, and produce as-built documentation confirming the structure is complete and ready for the next trade.

Raw Material Store

Running out of material mid-project is not an option. Our stocked steel yard carries the sections, plate, sheet, and tube our production programmes demand — ready to cut and fabricate without waiting.

Material procurement delays are one of the most common causes of project cost and schedule overrun in Tanzanian fabrication and construction. By maintaining a comprehensive stock of structural steel and flat products in our yard, we eliminate this risk for our clients and keep our own production running at full efficiency.

Our raw material stock is controlled by our production planning team, who monitor stock levels against active and upcoming jobs and trigger replenishment orders to maintain a comfortable buffer. All incoming material is checked against material test certificates and physically inspected before being booked into stock.

For specialist or large-quantity requirements, we have established supply relationships with steel importers and distributors in Dar es Salaam that allow us to source materials quickly and competitively when our standard stock does not cover the full requirement.

Welding & Fabrication

At Legend Customs & Manufacturing, welding is the beating heart of our workshop. Our certified welders deliver flawless joins on structural, pressure, and precision components — every single time.

We operate dedicated welding bays equipped for MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), Stick/Arc, and cold welding processes. Each bay is staffed by experienced, certified welders who understand material behaviour, weld integrity, and the critical importance of zero-defect fabrication in the structures and equipment we help build.

Whether you need a single bespoke bracket, a complex structural assembly, or a high-volume production run of welded components, our team has the skill set and capacity to deliver. We weld mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, and alloy materials across a wide range of thicknesses and joint configurations.

Every weld is subject to in-process and post-weld inspection. Visual inspection, dimensional checks, and where required, non-destructive testing (NDT) are used to verify weld quality before any component leaves our facility.

Structural Steel

From a single portal frame to a multi-span industrial complex, Legend designs, fabricates, and erects complete structural steel buildings — faster, stronger, and more cost-effectively than traditional construction.

Pre-engineered and prefabricated steel structures are the most efficient way to create large, clear-span spaces for warehousing, manufacturing, retail, agriculture, and commercial use. Our fully integrated service means you deal with one partner from concept design through to a standing, finished structure — no fragmented supply chains, no coordination headaches.

Our structural engineers work with you to define the load requirements, site conditions, and layout preferences, then produce detailed design drawings and fabrication models. All steel sections are cut, drilled, welded, and surface-treated in our Dar es Salaam workshop before being transported to site for rapid, skilled erection by our own installation crews.

We have successfully delivered warehouses, factory buildings, agricultural stores, commercial showrooms, mezzanine floors, canopies, and bespoke framed structures across Tanzania. Our steelwork is built to last — properly designed, properly built, properly finished.

Laser & CNC Cutting

Precision cutting, forming, and profiling of steel and metal components — delivered with accuracy measured in fractions of a millimetre, at production volumes that match your schedule.

Our CNC cutting and forming department handles the full range of steel processing operations required to produce complex profiles, flat-cut components, bent sections, and rolled forms. Whether you need a single prototype cut or thousands of identical parts, our machines deliver consistent, burr-free results with minimal material waste.

Laser cutting produces clean, precise edges on flat sheet and plate steel with no tooling changes and minimal setup time. For thicker sections and structural profiles, our CNC plasma cutting delivers fast, accurate results. Our CNC press brakes handle bending and folding operations to tight tolerances, producing accurate flanges, channels, angles, and complex folded forms.

All cutting and forming operations are programmed from your CAD files or our in-house engineering team's drawings, ensuring dimensional accuracy is guaranteed from the very first piece.

Engineering Design

Ideas need engineering rigour to become reality. Our in-house design team transforms concepts into production-ready drawings, structural calculations, and manufacturing specifications — all under one roof.

Having design capability in-house is one of the things that truly sets Legend apart. Most fabricators ask customers to supply complete drawings; we go further — we will work with you from sketch, concept, or functional brief through to a fully engineered, fabrication-ready design package. This means faster turnaround, fewer errors in translation, and products that are designed specifically for how we manufacture them.

Our CAD team works across 2D and 3D design environments, producing detailed general arrangement drawings, part drawings, assembly instructions, weld maps, and bill-of-materials documentation. For structural steelwork, we produce full structural calculation packages to support design approval and site permits where required.

We also offer product development services for new tool and equipment designs — from initial concept and ergonomic evaluation through to prototype fabrication, testing, and production tooling. Our R&D process is practical and efficient, focused on delivering manufacturable designs that perform in real-world conditions.

Agricultural Tools

Locally made in Tanzania, designed for Tanzanian conditions. Legend's agricultural and hand tool range is trusted by farmers, contractors, and suppliers across the country — built tough, built to last.

There is a fundamental problem with many hand tools available in Tanzania: they are imported, manufactured to the lowest possible cost, and not designed for the soil types, working conditions, or physical demands of East African agriculture and construction. Legend was founded specifically to address this. We design and manufacture tools that work properly in the field, in the hands of real workers, day after day.

Every tool in the Legend range is designed in-house, with our engineering team studying ergonomics, handle geometry, blade angle, material selection, and surface treatment to optimise performance and longevity. Our tools are produced to consistent quality standards in our Dar es Salaam factory, using quality steel that delivers the toughness and edge retention our customers depend on.

We supply individual tools direct and in bulk for retailers, agricultural cooperatives, NGOs, government procurement, and construction contractors.
